The IX National Week of stimulation of the Maternal Health will open in Fortaleza this Monday, 24, at 8 am in the School of Public Health of Ceara. Throughout the week will be held lectures and panfletagens for clarification on breast cancer in bus terminals and units of health. On Saturday, 29, will be done on-site effort at the Institute of Cancer Prevention of Ceará (IPCC), with priority given to women over 35 years that have never done mammography. The program ends Sunday, 30, with walk in Praia do Futuro, with output of the Medical Club, at 8am.
In Brazil, breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in women, mainly aged between 40 and 69 years. According to the Inca (National Institute of Cancer), in the last 5 years were recorded around 50 thousand new cases of breast cancer in Brazil. In Brazil it happens and in the years 2006 and 2007 the mortality rate for the disease was 9.5 and 9.2 per 100 inhabitants, respectively. The incidence is 50 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants.
One of the factors that impede the treatment is the advanced stage in which the disease is discovered. Most cases of breast cancer in Brazil, is diagnosed in advanced stages, reducing the chances of survival of patients and jeopardizing the results of treatment.
The stimulation of the Health Week from mammary and an educational campaign to encourage breast health is great instrument of alert and awareness of the population to the problem. It aims to encourage the early diagnosis of the disease with guidance and information, encouraging women to do self-examination and mobilizing the whole society this serious problem.
Simple, painless and homemade, self-examination brings great results in both the real and early detection of disease, how to bring the woman to observe more and see a mastologist to see any change in the breasts. The self-examination is essential. And women over 40 years of age must make a yearly mammogram.
