Portuguese consuming too many antibiotics

Health On the European Day of antibiotic, the Directorate General of Health has been warning Portugal is the second country in Europe that consumes more antibiotics. The warning was given yesterday by the Directorate - General of Health (DGS), as part of the commemoration of the first European Day of the antibiotic. "The antimicrobial resistance is now one of the biggest threats to public health in Europe," noted Francis George, Director General of Health The DGS believes that the solution is the reduction of "excessive" prescription of antibiotics by doctors. Pedro Nunes, bastonário of the Order of Physicians, responded saying that doctors at present are forced to pursue a "defensive medicine, afraid of being accused of future medical negligence." For the bastonário, the problem also lies in the illegal sale of drugs. "Sometimes the pharmaceutical supply without an antibiotic prescription." The bastinado of the Order of Pharmacists believes "regrettable" that the Order of Doctors of the problem is demarque accusing pharmacists. "I think this should be a common struggle for society as a whole," said Elizabeth Faria. Pedro Nunes refused that this becomes a war, just think that should be pointed out all the problems, so that, "in a united way, this is resolved." The Directorate General of Health took the European Day of the antibiotic to launch the Program for Prevention of antimicrobial resistance, in order to revert this situation.
